My PC runs linux and uses a ssd with the ext3 file system. I have no loss in performance over time and the file system sorts itself out as I use it.

The NTFS file system (since win2k) has also been the same, yet I still find occasions where windows has corrupted itself. A simple chkdsk /x /r usually irons out any problems, but I feel a defrag is something that will always lie in the past as file systems change.

Good for windows 98, not the same for windows 7
